NANDA YOUTH PLAY FESTIVAL 2014

Calling All Youth Groups

Why not enter the NANDA Youth Festival? It's great fun; you will learn a lot and will also have a chance to make friends with people from other groups. Even if you don't have a fully formed youth group, why not encourage some of your younger members to get a small cast production together.

The 2013 festival was a real success, we had excellent feedback and all concerned seemed to have a wonderful day; there certainly was a great atmosphere.

The 2014 Festival will be held at the Chilwell Olympia Theatre at Chilwell School, Nottingham on the evening of Friday 16th May and Saturday 17th May afternoon and evening. Should there be insufficient entries for three sessions, all performances will take place on the Saturday so please make sure your cast is available for both dates.

The adjudicator will be Dave Baliol-Key, a well known local director and drama practitioner. He has directed for The Robin Hood Theatre Company & The Newstagers Drama Company and has been actively involved in all aspects of performing arts through his many years of teaching.
Dave is now one of the Directors of The Robin Hood Theatre Company Limited and is very much looking forward to being involved with the Youth Theatre Festival for the first time.

If you don't understand what the Festival is all about, let me explain.

Each entry must be between 18 and 45 mins. and can be a one act play, an extract from a longer play as long it makes sense to an audience or some other piece of theatre, unless it consists entirely of mime, narration or is heavily dependent on production techniques. You can also enter an improvised or new work; there is even a special award for this type of entry.

Scenery should take no longer than 10 mins. to set and 5 minutes to strike, so we recommend that you keep your set fairly simple. The Olympia Theatre will be able to provide standard stage lighting, but all props and any special effects must be provided by the entrants.

All participants must be under the age of 19 on the day of the Festival.

There are lots of Trophies, awards and certificates, and although there is a competitive spirit the main enjoyment of all the participants comes from being able to perform in front of their family, friends and members of the other groups.
