Play of the Year 2012/13

Dear Member,

The time is here again for us to be thinking about entries for the Play of the Year Competition. The last two years have seen large numbers of entries and we want to keep up this momentum. Again we look forward to entries from new member groups and groups who have not taken part for a while, as well as entries from our regulars who always provide us with an excellent standard of competition

The adjudicator for 2012/2013 will be Stephen Godward, a well known actor, singer and director within our region and beyond.
Stephen is well known to audiences as performer, conductor and as director.
He was born in Nottingham and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Richard Standen. Operatic roles played have been many and various! Stephen especially enjoys Mozart’s buffo roles in particular and has played Papageno, Leporello and Figaro! He has played in many Sondheim productions and has seven times played the Judge in Sweeney Todd.
The straight theatre beckoned as a younger man and Stephen appeared in such diverse plays as Noises Off, The Royal Hunt of the Sun, The Alchemist, A Month of Sundays, Alphabetical Order, Whodunnit, Habeus Corpus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and No Sex Please, We’re British!
He is chorus director for Derby Gilbert and Sullivan Company – six times winners of the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.
He has been directing for over thirty years both in school, youth theatre and more recently for the West Bridgford Operatic Society and St Peters Gilbert and Sullivan Society. He will conduct The Yeomen of the Guard for Peterborough Gilbert and Sullivan in September.

Fees yet again are staying at £60 per entry. A copy of the rules is attached, which I advise reading even if you know them by heart!! Also please remember that nominations for the Sidney Hopkin Award must be made at the same time as your entry for the competition. Musical Plays and Pantomimes are also acceptable.

Although a months notice should be given, entries can be received much earlier, thus making sure the adjudicator has it in his diary. Anyone wishing to enter a play in late September please ring me asap.

The Annual Dinner and Presentation of Awards will take place at the Welbeck Hotel, Nottingham on Friday 21st June 2013 Please ring me on 0115 9291077 if you need any more information or have any queries.

Looking forward to hearing from you
Yours Faithfully
