As announced at the Annual Dinner our adjudicator will be Amanda Hall, herself a seasoned practitioner and performer.

Amanda Hall

Amanda is a freelance Director/Choreographer and runs her own theatre school, Spotlight Theatre School , based in Netherfield, and is also a previous Theatre Manager. Trained as a dancer, Amanda has performed locally at Derby Playhouse, Trent College, Nottingham Playhouse, The Theatre Royal and Nottingham Arts Theatre. She has worked for Sky TV on several info-commercials, and has recorded with BBC Radio 2 & performed at Pebble Mill Studios. During 2008 Amanda was a Director/Choreographer with Roundabout at Nottingham Playhouse (Theatre In Education). She is also currently the East Midlands Youth Advisor for NODA. Over the last 28 years she has directed, and or choreographed for many societies and individuals across the East Midlands. Amanda is also responsible for staging & choreographing many pantomimes & several revues, including 2 charity revues at Nottingham Playhouse for the British Red Cross. Amandas most recent successes have been with musicals at Trent College ,NAT, Palace Theatre Newark, Nottingham Playhouse (Roundabout) and Bonnington Theatre. Three of her productions won awards at Nottingham Arts Theatre and with NODA. Giving the skills and knowledge to develop a person’s confidence to achieve a better performance has always been an important part of the work Amanda has done. Most recently Amanda has worked for Roundabout, the theatre in education arm of Nottingham Playhouse with a production of Willy Russell’s Our Day Out at River Leen School in Bulwell. As part of her role as Theatre Manager at Nottingham Arts Theatre, Amanda encouraged the growth of educational activities for all ages and abilities. In October 2006 Amanda ran a week long musical theatre workshop in Poznan, Poland. This was part of an exchange visit from Nottingham Arts Theatre. West Side Story meets Romeo & Juliet, encourages the use of choral speaking and movement, which in this instance was done in Polish and English.

The cost will again stay at £60.00 per entry and I look forward to receiving your entries, particularly from new groups and those who have not entered for a few years.
Please re read the rules if you have not looked at them for a while. Nominations for the Sidney Hopkin Trophy must be made at the same time as your play is entered. Remember that musical plays and pantomimes can be entered for the Competition.

Whilst it is good that groups enter more than one play it would be nice if we had more groups entering.
As well as the lure of awards, we hope all groups who enter go away from the competition having learnt something new – either from the adjudication or by visiting other groups who enter.
Again I ask you to get your entry in early to ensure that the adjudicator is available. It is never quite the same with a deputy and mediation. Any group with an entry in late September or early October please ring me as soon as possible.

The results of the competition and presentation of awards will take place at the Annual Dinner on Friday 15th June 2012 at the Welbeck Hotel.

Please give me a ring on 0115 9291077 if you need any more information or have any questions.

Looking forward to hearing from you
Yours Faithfully

Joan Wildgust
Competition Co-ordinator
