Touchwood Touring Theatre are staging the world premier of "Haggard" by Eric Chappell, BAFTA award winning writer of Rising Damp, Home to Roost, Duty Free and Only When I Laugh, to name but a few, and based on characters by Michael Green (Art of Course Acting, Collier's Tuesday Tea, Streuth etc)
Eric best describe the play himself as "An Entertainment! The adventures of Haggard, a rascally squire, his wayward son Roderick and his crafty manservant Grunge. A romp through Regency England with seductions, unpaid debts and empty wine bottles."
Not quite a pantomime but lots of scope for fun and frivolity. Eric will be involved throughout and has agreed to do post show talks on some of the nights. This is also a whisper on the grapevine that Michael Green may make an appearance or two.
Produced by Mark Lebeter and directed by Jean Lebeter the show will be be performed Sat 20th August and Mon to Sat 22nd to 27th August in the summer bar at the Robin Hood Inn, Edwinstowe. This will be a great location as Edwinstowe is a very large village that has Centre Parcs, Thoresby Hall Hotel and two Hoseasons forest villages all within 3 or 4 miles so potential audience is boundless. Other activities are planned to coincide so this should be a great event.
We are looking actors, singers and musicians who would be interested in taking part. We certainly need a young lady and gentleman to play the romantic leads of Roderick and Fanny Foulacre (need to be able to play 20 - 25 year olds ish). There are other, less demanding roles as well as universal oiks to act as scene changers and crowd. Oiks need to be able to sing preferably or at least be able to carry a tune.
This is a lovely opportunity to work with one of this country's greatest living comedy writers as well as perhaps doing something a little different from the norm and a bit whacky.
