WEST BRIDGFORD OPERATIC SOCIETY in 1986
Secretary: Miss S Dimmock - West Bridgford
Chairman: Colin Keast - West Bridgford
40 Years on
In 1945 a group of enthusiasts met in the Baptist Church Hall in West Bridgford with a view to starting a society for the production of Gilbert and Sullivan operas. 1985 witnessed the fortieth production.
People ask why the Society has continued to perform nothing but Gilbert and Sullivan. Apart from the enthusiasm of "G & S" fans, the answer lies in the variation in the production and musical direction, from the original ultra tradition of the earlier years - (the fan work of the first Mikado has never been bettered) - to the lively and inventive shows of the later years. Every show has been different from the last time round and a recent democratic vote
ensured that G & S will continue for some years at least. But the future must be taken care of too, so please remember all you budding singers, auditions - August; rehearsals - Wednesdays (September - May); public performance (May). We would particularly welcome men.
