WEST BRIDGFORD DRAMATIC SOCIETY in 1986
Chaiman: Mike Billingsley - West Bridgford
Secretary: Kay Barber - West Bridgford
The Society was fomed in 1949 and incorporated into a limited company in 1982. The policy has always been to welcome new members and to Quickly integrate them into the many and varied aspects of drama. Although concentrating on full length productions, the Society has an excellent record in a wide variety of entertainment, including one-act plays, musical items and cabaret. There are some fifty members of a wide age group.
Meetings are held at "The Hut" off Eltham Road, West Bridgford, on alternate Tuesday evenings from September to May inclusive. Rehearsals are also held at the same venue and the Society is
justifiably proud of its own premises. The fortnightly meetings are varied in content, eg dramatic, musical, quiz games, speakers and social; they provide an opportunity for members not involved in the current production to meet together.
Full length productions and the Summer Serenades of light musical entertainment are presented at Stanford Hall Theatre, near Loughborough. A Drama Workshop is held on Saturday mornings at "The Hut" for an 11-16 year old age group which was fomed in 1976. A particular feature is the Thunderbird Competition which requires small teams of junior members to write, produce and perfom a short playlet for assessment by the main group. The Society offers tasks to fit all talents, producing, acting, painting and set building, all aspects of backstage work, sewing, front of house.
Past productions include:
"A Lion in Winter"
"Mystery at Blackwater"
"Trial by Jury"
"Present Laughter"
"Local Affairs"
"Salad Days"
"Suddenly At Home"
"A Murder Has Been Arranged"
Also numerous One-Act Plays.
