TRINITY THEATRE CLUB in 1986

Secretary: Edwin Lewis - Long Eaton Chairman: Gordon Mason - Sandiacre Trinity Theatre Club - never heard of them you might say - well it is our aim to make ourselves well known.

Members for various reasons decided that Long Eaton should and could have another amateur drama group and thus formed the nucleus of the new group. The foundations had been laid and the time for talking was over, the business of providing entertainment was now the main priority and rehearsals for the first major production began in June 1981 and a lot of hard work and effort were brought to a climax in early December with the production of "Candied Peel", a comedy thriller.

The Club being part of Trinity Church we were asked to participate in the Easter celebrations by incorporating a play as part of the church service. Unsure of what we could do, one of our members put pen to paper and wrote a one act play which was subsequently performed and enjoyed by those who saw and also those who took part in it. It also had two "firsts" - the first original play we had done and the first play to be done for a producer beginning to learn the ropes.

Consultation now began to decide what the next production should be and we eventually settled on "Ride a Cock Horse" and once again the business of rehearsal began. October saw the public crowding in to see the show and coming away thoroughly pleased. Again we could claim two "firsts" - a debut for one young member who had never trod the boards before and who did extremely well and the first three act for the producer trying to climb up the ropes now!

To progress effectively and to become more widely known the Theatre Club has become a member of NANDA and has now become actively involved in some of the Association's activities. Two members are now writing a play for the play-writing competition and it is hoped that next year's production will be put forward as an entry to the Play of the Year competition. It is hoped that Trinity Theatre will become well known and not just another drama club.
