ST ANDREW'S THEATRE GROUP in 1986
Chairman: Ralph HarVey - Mapperley
Secretary: Julia Smith - Wilford
A Drama Group was initially formed just over 30 years ago, mainly from members of the Church Youth Fellowship, and over several years staged productions in our Parish Hall in Alfred Street North, and also on occasions took these out to Hospitals.
Due to the usual problems of members moving from the area, because of either work changes, college attendance, or marriage, the group lapsed, but in 1973 a few of the original crowd still within the Church decided the time was right to try again.
Our membership has varied a great deal this past twelve years, with only four of us left from the starters (and, surprisingly, also they were part of the early '50s crowd), and about 50% are regular St Andrew's people. The present membership is around sixteen, plus two or three
extra helpers with make-up around production time.
We meet once a week (not so often during the main holiday period) which means generally
these evenings are taken up with readings or rehearsals.
We did change the name from Drama to Theatre Group a few years back to cater for a Gilbert & Sullivan group (run by the Choirmaster with support from the Church Choir and friends). They have put on several productions, and also concerts in various venues, one of them being
"The Mikado" at the Bonington Theatre. Production and administration are run quite separately, though a few members belong to both groups.
Recent productions include:
"Pull the Other One"
"Just Between Ourselves"
"Funny Kind of Day"
"The Full Treatment"
"They Call It Murder"
"This Happy Home"
