5 FESTIVALS
Play of the Year 18/19 and Awards Dinner
JW reported that the last three plays were to be adjudicated this week (closing date is the end of May). There has been a total of 16 entries - down on last year. Stephen Godward has been to 2 Lace Market and one WBDS production as mediator and will discuss his adjudication with Bob Wildgust. Trophies now need to be returned. GP and RH to sign the certificates
Dinner LW said that the letters and menu choices had gone out to all participating groups. Few replies had been received so far. £56 is owing to NANDA from last year's dinner by the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
JW said that the adjudicator for next year is usually announced at the dinner and that as yet one had not been found There was a discussion on possible adjudicators. HW said that he was willing to be a deputy adjudicator if necessary.
Youth Festival
Mel Reynolds (by email) thanked everyone who helped with the Youth Festival. He noted the lack of support from the parents of teams entering (both door receipts and refreshment sales were down this year). One possible reason was the cost of tickets. He has identified youth drama schools, including some secondary schools which could be contacted next year with a view to holding a larger festival. He invited comments from the Council.
HW suggested free entry for groups. RH questioned whether the information about the event was passed on effectively - he personally was unaware parents were allowed to attend. RH will formally ask Mel to run the event next year.
6 THE FUTURE OF NANDA
Rob Hurst, Barbara Barton and Kevin Fairbrother had contacted several groups to ask about their views on NANDA and how the organisation could effectively help its members. Some members were not sure about the advantages of belonging and there was some lack of understanding of what NANDA was about. Some suggestions were:- more courses and workshops; advice on issues e.g. effective marketing to drive ticket sales; sharing resources eg lighting. The Play of the Year is an important way of promoting NANDA and there was a suggestion that entry should be free. RA suggested that for groups who did not wish to enter the competition there should be the opportunity of a private adjudication.
It was noted that Bob Wildgust is running a director's course in July and August for Beeston Players. Five places are open to members of other groups. CD to email this information to groups
