Following the treasurer's report, GP questioned the need for maintaining a balance of £9,000.
He asked how the surplus could be used to benefit member groups. TV suggested some of the money could be used as a successor to the Gurd Award, when that fund has run out. MR suggested it could be used to finance courses for the benefit of members. It was decided to discuss this in detail at a later date.
4 CONSTITUTION OF NANDA
There was a discussion of the Constitution, led by Howard Whitehurst. There has not been a revision of the constitution since the establishment of NANDA and it was agreed that it needed revising and being brought up to date. Howard presented his amendments and these were discussed at length. Howard will draw up a revised constitution in the light of these discussions. The new constitution will take effect at the next AGM.
5 DATA PROTECTION
This agenda item was raised by CD in the light of new data protection laws being implemented soon. HW had investigated this matter and found that the law does not apply to groups who are pursuing a hobby.
6 FESTIVALS
Play of the Year 17/18 and Awards Dinner
JW announced the at the Play of the Year had broken the record for the number of entries this year - 25 entries from 15 groups. Stephen Godward will do the last adjudication (he will have done 2) as Jane Herring is not available for the last one.
The Dinner will take place on Friday June 22nd at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. LW will send out the information and menu to groups. As this is the Anniversary year it was decided to make the occasion special. LW will deal with the provision of balloons, JW and CD will sort out flowers for the tables. LW will try to locate a sound person.
Youth Festival 2018
Four plays have been entered:- ELAPS, Maggie Andrew's group, and two from Lace Market Youth. Regarding issues of organisation, the following points were made:- more front of house staff needed;list of performers, helpers, backstage crew on the day needed for each group;charge participants £2 for day rate. Jean Lebeter to organise tickets. The suggested running order is three plays in the afternoon, break for tea then one play in the evening.
