The Chairborne Players in 1986

Chairman: Haro1d L Mercer - Chilwell
Secretary: Mary Barks - Beeston

The Chairborne Players Society for Music and Drama is a registered charity group, formed for the education and participation of disabled people in the Arts. This unique and versatile group of disabled people, along with able-bodied helpers, have so far put on to the public 12 full-length pantomimes; 2 three-act musicals; two one-act plays, one three-act play and 1 old tyme musical. The group has also entertained many other groups and societies and visited several Homes for the elderly.

The group was originally formed as "The Wheelchair Players" by the Nottingham Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. ln their early days the group was helped by Patrick Dennis who wrote and produced several shows which included personal appearances by Leslie Crowther. After a while the group decided to "go it alone". So, Chairborne were formed with their own Constitution with Leslie Crowther as President. It is run by a committee of disabled and able-bodied.

At the moment there are 30 members whose "Home" Theatre is at Chilwell Comprehensive School. This is an ideal base for the group as the school stage is at ground level. The group has an ever growing band of support; it seems that thc regulars cannot get enough of the great Panto's that are the highlight of the season.

We would be most grateful for financial support no matter how little.
