Calverton Theatre Group was formed in 1977 and with more enthusiasm than expertise produced a revue that was a triumph in the art of coarse acting!
Undeterred and still operating on a shoestring, a colourful cast-off-curtain-clad cast caroused its way almost tunefully through three performances or 'Treasure Island', and we became financially solvent. It was discovered that the Group possessed considerable assets in having a formidable array of talents, excellent needlewomen, electricians, carpenters, scene painters and musicians. Script writers were unearthed to produce material for revue sketches and pantomimes, and it was even rumoured (though never verified) that there was at least one person who could sing!
As in all groups where creative, opinionated extroverts attempt to pool ideas without compromise, there were and will be painful dodgem crashes of egos which in retrospect are extremely amusing. But we survived the birth and hope to achieve maturity, and higher standards, with the support that membership of NANDA will hopefully bring.
