ANNUAL REPORT 1996-1997

Play of the Year Competition.
Eight societies entered plays for the competition. Bob Wildgust and Gordon Parsons jointly adjudicated. The Association records its great appreciation of the work of Margot Anderson who acted as organiser for the competition. A list of the societies and individuals who were awarded trophies is published separately.

One Act Open Festival.
The Association held its One Act Open Festival at the Chatsworth Centre, Long Eaton on 7 June 1996. The Festival was included as part of the Long Eaton Arts Festival. Six entries were received, Tony Armstrong adjudicated and the list of award winners is published separately. The Association records its appreciation of the work of Mary Allsop in organising this Festival, of Mike Stewart and Neil Mackintosh for assistance with the detailed stage management arrangements, and of the staff of the Chatsworth Centre for the hospitality arrangements.

One Act Youth Festival
The Association held its youth Festival at the Robin Hood Theatre, Averham, on the 12 April 1996. Six entries were received. Carolyn Drury adjudicated and the list of award winners is published separately. The Association records it appreciation of the work of Dawn Hatfield in organising this Festival. Of Mike Stewart for assistance with the detailed stage management arrangements, and of the staff of the Robin Hood Theatre for the operation of the stage lighting and sound equipment.

Play Writing Festival
The Association held the performances from, what has been so far, its biannual Play Writing Festival, at the Chatsworth Centre, Long Eaton. David Campton adjudicated and the list of award winners is published separately. The Association records its appreciation of the work of Noel Harrower in organising this Festival, and of Mike Stewart for assistance with the detailed stage management arrangements.

Donations
The Association is indebted to Erewash Borough Council for assistance to the play festivals and to Rushcliffe Arts Association and Keyworth Dramatic Society for donations.

Membership
The Association has been pleased to welcome into membership Barkby Players, Radcliffe on Trent and Lansdowne Drama Workshop.

Bulletin
Editions of the Bulletin were published in September '96 and February '97, thanks are due to Roy Ainscough for editing.

Events
An open meeting was held at the Manor, West Bridgford, to investigate, with East Midlands Arts Association, the use of Lottery money via the Arts For Everyone initiative (A4E). A Civic Reception was hosted by the County Council to celebrate fifty years of NANDA on the 7 July, the date of the original inaugural meeting in 1948. Present committee members and past officers were invited to County Hall by the Chairman of the Council.

Fiftieth Anniversary Award Ceremony and Ball
This year's Dinner Dance was held in the Portland Building at the University of Nottingham on the 23 May, Roy Ainscough presided, and Gordon Parsons, assisted by Bob Wildgust, presented the Adjudicators report on the Play of the Year Competition. The Association records its sincere thanks to Bramcote and Stanton Drama Group for arranging the venue and the band.

Executive Council
The Association records its appreciation of the services and support of the Honorary Officers and members of the Executive Council, which met eleven times during the year
